How a heat pump works

A heat pump uses a cycle of compression and expansion of a heat transfer fluid to extract heat from the air around the pool. A fan drives air through the evaporator, where it transfers its heat to the heat transfer fluid (cooling the air in the process). The heat transfer fluid is then transported by a compressor, which compresses and heats it, to the coil heat exchanger, where it transfers its heat to the pool water. From the heat exchanger, the cooled fluid flows into an expansion valve, where its pressure is reduced and it cools rapidly. The cooled fluid then flows back into the evaporator, where it is heated by the flowing air. The entire process runs continuously and is monitored by pressure and temperature sensors.
